Leaders of AJM Academies honored at conference
The A.J. Moore Academies at University High received two awards from the National Academy Foundation (NAF) at its 30th anniversary celebration.
Angela Reiher, dean of academies, was awarded the Janet Linton Leadership Award. The award was created in 2006 in memory of the late San Diego Academy Director who helped shape the landscape for high school reform. The Janet Linton Leadership Award recognizes extraordinary contribution and leadership within the NAF network at school, district and state levels.
Dean Reiher has been with A.J. Moore for 15 years and was instrumental in the Academy of Information Technology pilot and the implementation of the wall-to-wall academy approach at the school. Reiher’s leadership, personal passion and commitment to her students ensured that the school’s transition to the University High campus earlier this year appened seamlessly and without losing the fidelity to the NAFmodel.
Bill Foulds, president of the A.J. Moore Academies Advisory Board, received the Advisory Board Champion Award. This award honors an advisory board member who has exercised extraordinary leadership in advancing NAF model and ensuring that all youth are prepared for college, careers and active civic participation.
Foulds’ leadership has brought the Advisory Board to the highest level of involvement. He is a well-versed advocate for the school and during the recent school closings and consolidations, Foulds worked at the district level to help ensure the sustainability of the NAF academies for Waco students. Foulds eagerly supports every event and engages members to become involved in all aspects of the school.
